3D PRINTING HELP CENTRE
In the 123-3D help centre, we answer all your questions about 3D software and printer settings, problems you may experience during or after 3D printing and other 3D-related topics.
What is a resin filament?
Resin is a versatile and very strong filament type that is used in combination with SLA and DLP printers. It has good heat resistance, ideal for printing extremely detailed objects and available in a variety of colours.
Main properties of resin filament:
Choice of different colours
Very strong
Heat resistant
Light flexible
Suitable for SLA and DLP printers

Resin is a liquid polymer that solidifies when exposed to a laser, UV light or daylight. Depending on the type of resin you choose, this filament cures at a wavelength between 360 and 460nm.
Resin filament is hard and very strong, so it can be used for objects where a lot of force is applied. In addition, this 3D filament is ideal for creating moulds or printing small and very detailed designs such as jewellery.
Resin designs are cured layer by layer and pulled out of the liquid, as it were. The result: an almost seamless print of unprecedented quality. The exposure time per layer depends on the exposure source and varies between 8 and 16 seconds. For an optimal end result, remove the sticky layer that remains after the print and allow the design to cure until a nice, smooth surface is created.
Always store this strong and durable material in a dry and dark place, without exposure to UV light, to ensure durability and quality. This way your 3D resin creations will always be of top quality!
What are the advantages and disadvantages of resin filament?

Hard and very strong material
Can discolour over time due to UV radiation
Ideal for creating high-resolution moulds and detailed objects
Strong smell, should be printed in a ventilated environment
Tips for resin filament printing:
When printing with resin, toxic substances with a strong odour may be released. Therefore, always work in a well-ventilated area with the necessary safety measures.
Remove the sticky layer that remains after 3D printing with soap and water or a bath of isopropyl alcohol.
Use
‘castable resin’
for your 3D print if you want to make a mould of the object. This type of resin evaporates completely at high temperatures so that no residue remains in the mould.
Reuse the leftover resin by
filtering
it and saving it for your next 3D print.
When choosing resin filament for your SLS or DLP printer, consider the different variants: laser, UV or daylight.
Resin filament with different properties:
Daylight resin
Specially developed for SLA printers that use an LCD with visible daylight for exposure.
UV resin
UV resin cures very quickly and has a low shrinkage factor. The application possibilities are therefore endless.
Castable resin
The ideal filament for creating moulds. Very strong and completely soluble at high temperatures!
